Preliminary storm reports indicate wind gusts exceeding 60 mph were detected in the Twin Cities Metro as the severe weather moved through that area.
Inclement weather forced fair officials to begin taking action on Monday evening. At 6 p.m., organizers announced a delayed door opening for Monday night’s grandstand show, which was the Happy Together Tour 2024.
At 7:10 p.m., officials advised fair guests to seek shelter and announced some of the event’s attractions and vendors were temporarily closing. The concert was then called off at 8:30 p.m.
Rides and ticketed attractions, along with entertainment at the free stages were also closed for the rest of the day.
On Tuesday morning, organizers announced the grounds won’t open at the usual time of 7 a.m. The delay is to allow for damage assessment and debris cleanup, according to the announcement made at 6:15 a.m.
Officials have announced the fairgrounds will open to the public at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Park-and-ride lots will remain closed until further notice.
Organizers say the opening for some vendors and attractions will be delayed until after the gates have opened. Lots surrounding the fairgrounds will also be open.
