MN political parties open state conventions today

Minnesota’s two major political parties are holding their conventions this weekend in opposite ends of the state.

Democrats are holding their state convention in Duluth.

Republicans open their convention at 10 this morning at Rochester’s Mayo Civic Center.

Most of the major endorsements at the Democratic convention are already locked up.

That’s not the case at the Republican convention where several candidates are seeking the party's endorsement to challenge Democratic Senator Al Franken and Governor Dayton, also a Dem.

Delegates at the Republican convention are scheduled to endorse candidates for the Senate seat today, and pick candidates for Secretary of State, Attorney General and State Auditor. The endorsement for governor will come tomorrow.
