Nurse in Wisconsin Now Facing Charges For Amputating Man’s Foot
This is one of the most horrifically strange stories you've likely heard, especially when you check out what the nurse was allegedly going to do with the foot she amputated!
It's not every day you read about someone cutting off someone else's foot-- on purpose, and without their permission. And by a nurse, no less. But that's what allegedly happened at a senior living facility over in Spring Valley, Wisconsin (which is about an hour and a half northeast of Rochester.)
WQOW-TV in Eau Claire, WI has the gruesome story of 38-year-old Mary K. Brown, of Durand, WI, who is facing criminal charges for allegedly cutting off the foot of a dying patient earlier this year.
The story says the patient was in hospice care and had severe frostbite, so apparently, Brown, who was working as a hospice nurse at the time, just went and cut the foot off one night.
Did Brown have permission? Nope. Did the victim ask to have his foot amputated? Apparently not, according to the story. Did a doctor recommend the procedure? Again, the story says no, apparently not.
And check out what the story says Brown said she was going to do with the amputated appendage:
Brown told another nurse that her family has a taxidermy shop and that Brown intended to preserve the foot and put it on display with a sign that said, "Wear your boots, kids," the story noted.
There are other grisly details in the story, as well, like how other nurses said it 'wasn't a good amputation' and that after the procedure, the patient allegedly told another nurse 'he felt everything during it, and that it hurt very bad.'
Yikes. KSTP-TV says that Brown is facing two felony charges of abuse of an elderly person and mayhem and is scheduled to make an initial appearance in Pierce County Circuit Court in Ellsworth, WI on December 6th. If convicted, each charge carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison.
