NWS Confirms 2 More Tornadoes in SE Minnesota & West Wisconsin

La Crosse, WI (KROC-AM News) - The National Weather Service has confirmed that three tornadoes were produced by the severe storms that pummeled southeastern Minnesota last weekend.

Survey teams from the National Weather Service previously confirmed an EF0 tornado was responsible for damage to a barn, trees, and crops in an area just north of Houston last Saturday afternoon. It has since been confirmed that another EF0 tornado with estimated peak winds of around 80 mph hit an area of rural Winona County. The National Weather Service reported it was on the ground for about 1.3 miles in an area 5 miles northwest of Rushford and mainly caused tree damage.

The third tornado hit just east of La Crosse in western Wisconsin. It was another EF0 twister with 80 miles-per-hour winds and was on the ground for about 2 1/2 miles just south of I-90. The National Weather Service Indicated it hit a nature preserve, which limited the damage to trees.

Much more extensive damage occurred in Rochester where straight-line winds of nearly 70 mph knocked over a number of large trees and tree branches. Around 3500 customers of Rochester Public Utilities lost power and some of those customers did not have their power restored until last Sunday evening.
