Mankato, MN (KROC-AM News)- An elderly pedestrian was taken to a hospital after being struck by an SUV in southern Minnesota on Thursday.

The traffic incident occurred after sunset. Deputies from the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office responded to the pedestrian-SUV collision around 9 p.m. 

It happened near the intersection of South Bend Ave. and Spartan St. in rural western Mankato. 70-year-old Tommy Arvin Ferguson of Mankato was identified as the pedestrian.

An uninvolved witness told deputies the man was walking in the traffic lane when he was hit by the SUV, a news release issued Friday by the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office says.

Ferguson was taken to a Mankato hospital with what are being described as serious but non-life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the SUV, identified as 79-year-old Kay Louise Lund of North Mankato, was not hurt.
