Rochester Burglar Caught Hiding on Roof – Sent to Prison
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man accused of a burglary spree last December has been sent to prison.
Olmsted County court documents say local law enforcement officers began looking for 39-year-old Andrew Tyler Jones after Olmsted County deputies responded to a report of a burglary in Stewartville and were told by the victim that the suspect was Jones. The victim was a relative who indicated Jones had previously broken into his garage and was supposed to be at a Rochester treatment center.
Four days later, the deputy investigating the Stewartville case was informed that Jones was suspected of a burglary in the 1200 block of South Broadway in Rochester. The same day, Rochester police responded to a damage to property complaint just off South Broadway on 9 1/2 Street Southeast where a food truck had been burglarized and a reciprocating saw taken in the Stewartville burglary was found at the scene.
He Was Arrested After He Was Spotted on the Roof of the Former Denny's Restaurant in Rochester
The criminal complaint against Jones says a Rochester Police officer then spotted Jones and was chasing him when he ran into the former Denny's restaurant building along South Broadway. A Rochester police spokesperson reported that officers surrounded the building and deployed a drone, which located Jones on the roof. He then came down and surrendered to officers.
Court documents say evidence found inside the former restaurant suggested Jones had been living inside the building. Investigators also located a number of suspected stolen items, including approximately 26 hammers.

Jones was charged with third-degree burglary, along with gross misdemeanor counts of theft and damage to property. He entered a guilty plea to the felony burglary charge in late February through a plea agreement that resulted in the dismissal of the other charges.
Jones was given a sentence of 29 months in prison with credit for the 72 days he had spent in the Olmsted County jail following his arrest.
