Police Lt. Jennifer Hodgeman said officers were informed of an adult man being in a sexual relationship with a girl under the age of 14. Officers arrested the suspect on Wednesday.

The criminal complaint, filed Friday in Olmsted County Court, says a family member of the young girl reported the relationship to police last weekend after seeing messages on her snapchat and seeing the man, identified as 36-year-old Jonathan Mark Tompkin of Rochester, dropping her off and kissing her.

Investigators interviewed the victim who told them Tompkin messaged her on Snapchat earlier this summer and asked her to hang out. The charges say she told officers she refused the invitation but that Tompkin showed up at the Rochester residence she was staying at, telling her he got her location from Snapchat.

The girl said she went to Tompkin’s townhouse in the 2600 block of Charles Ct. Northwest. She told him she is 13 years old and said nothing happened during her first visit, the complaint says.

The young victim, who told law enforcement she was fearful of Tompkin knowing where she was staying, went back to his residence a total of 3-4 times and reported he raped and sexually assaulted her during those visits. The complaint says the victim also told officers that Tompkin would supply her with alcohol and marijuana

Court documents say Tompkin also showed the girl a gun he had and threatened to shoot her. Tompkin denied raping the girl and told investigators he thought she was 23.

Tompkin was arraigned in Olmsted County Court Friday morning on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one felony count of terroristic threats. His conditional bail was set at $20,000 and he’s due back in court on October 5.
