Dispute Stemmed From Landscaping Job

According to the criminal complaint against Bennett, the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a weapons violation in suburban northwest Rochester on the afternoon of October 21, 2025. The responding deputies learned that Bennett was involved in a dispute with a landscaper over the completion of a job at his residence in late August.

Court Records Describe Alleged Gun Threat

The court document says that, after multiple weeks of calling and texting Bennett, the landscaper went to his home and sat down at a table in the basement. The landscaper told the deputies that Bennett presented him with an agreement and demanded that he sign it without reading it. When the landscaper refused the demand, Bennett was accused of pulling a handgun from under his shirt and pointing it at the other man.

The charging document also lists threatening statements Bennett allegedly directed at the landscaper. They included, "We know where you live and where your school address is," "We're going to find you," and "You're messing with the wrong guy."

The landscaper told the deputies that he left the home without signing the agreement.

Investigators Conducted Traffic Stop After Incident

The criminal complaint indicates a deputy later conducted a traffic stop on Bennett and did not find any firearms in his possession. The court document states that Bennett told deputies he was engaged in a dispute with the landscaper and that the victim had been at his home. It also indicates that Bennett stopped talking to investigators after he confirmed there were firearms in his home and he was questioned about threatening the landscaper.

Bennett is scheduled to be sentenced in July.
