Rochester Man Gets Probation For Involvement in Shooting
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - One of the two men charged in connection with what was described in court documents as an exchange of gunfire in Rochester last year has been sentenced to probation.
30-year-old Alonzo Darnell Kelly was arrested and charged last September after Rochester police responded to reports of an active shooting in the vicinity of the Homestead Village and Falcon Landing Apartment in southeast Rochester. Court documents alleged that Kelly and 34-year-old Scott Bunch of Rochester fired shots at each other.
No injuries were reported, but investigators discovered that one of the apartment buildings and a vehicle were struck by bullets.
Kelly was charged with felony counts of reckless discharge of a firearm and illegal possession of a firearm. He later entered into a plea agreement and admitted to the reckless discharge of a firearm charge.
He has now been handed a one-year stayed prison sentence and has been placed on probation for two years. The criminal complaint indicates Kelly was previously convicted of a felony charge in connection with the burglary in Illinois in 2013.
Earlier this month, Kelly was sentenced to five years on probation for his conviction on a felony count of threats of violence. In that case, he had been accused of threatening a female employee of a Southeast Rochester restaurant with a baseball bat following a verbal altercation at the drive-thru window.
Scott Bunch, the second man charged in connection with the September 2024 shooting, was found guilty of second-degree assault, reckless discharge of a firearm, and illegal possession of a firearm. He is currently scheduled to be sentenced in April.
