Rochester Man’s Trial For Sex Abuse Interrupted by Guilty Plea
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man's trial on child sexual assault charges was halted today when he entered a guilty plea.
The process of seeking a jury for the trial of 40-year-old Ricardo Jovany Garcia began on Monday in Olmsted County Court. He was charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The Charges Alleged the Sexual Assaults Took Place Over a Period of Several Years
The criminal complaint alleged he sexually assaulted a juvenile girl on multiple occasions. Rochester police opened an investigation into the allegations after the teenage girl told her therapist about the sexual abuse in May 2022.
According to the charges, the victim told investigators that she had been sexually assaulted by Garcia for several years. She reported that the last sexual contact between herself and Garcia occurred in March or April 2022.

Garcia entered into a plea agreement today and admitted to one of the second-degree criminal sexual conduct charges. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to dismiss all of the other charges against him.
