Rochester Triple Homicide Defendant Wants to Cancel Guilty Pleas
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man who pleaded guilty last month to charges in a triple homicide case is now asking to withdraw his guilty pleas.
A motion filed in Olmsted County Court last Thursday requests an order allowing 30-year-old Renard Carter to rescind his guilty pleas to three counts of second-degree murder that were entered on July 15th. An affidavit filed by a member of his defense team indicates Carter will claim that he was coerced into pleading guilty.
Carter is accused of the strangulation deaths of his pregnant girlfriend and her two-year-old daughter. The bodies of 23-year-old Kiona Foote and Miyona Miller were discovered in their Rochester apartment last September. The criminal complaint against him says Carter posted videos on social media showing him killing one of the victims.
Carter was captured in South Carolina, where he was shot and wounded by a police officer when he came out of an apartment holding a BB gun.
A hearing on Carter's request to withdraw his guilty pleas as yet is scheduled. He is currently scheduled to be sentenced on September 1st.
