Second Suspect in Rochester Olive Garden Shooting Sentenced

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -  One of the men charged in connection with a shooting outside a popular Rochester restaurant last year entered into a plea agreement Friday in Olmsted County Court. 23-year-old Idris Haji-Mohamed admitted to a gross misdemeanor riot charge and was sentenced to the time he has already served in jail. He was originally charged with three felonies, including attempted murder and second-degree assault.

Haji-Mohamed and 22-year-old Abdi Abukar were arrested last May after Rochester police responded to reports of a gun battle taking place in the parking lot of the Olive Garden restaurant. Multiple witnesses identified Abukar as the person who was firing shots at a third man as they ran through the parking lot at lunchtime. Both men were arrested near the crime scene and a gun was recovered by police.

Abukar previously worked out a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to a felony charge involving the possession of a firearm. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison, which he is being allowed to serve concurrently with his sentence for a drug conviction last fall.
