Severe Weather Threat Posted for Nearly All of Minnesota Tuesday

Undated (KROC-AM News)- A severe weather threat has been posted for the majority of Minnesota’s 87 counties.

The National Weather Service is predicting a long and narrow line of storms, that’s predicted to stretch from northern Iowa to the Canadian border, could pack a possibly severe punch as it moves across the state Tuesday.

Counties along Minnesota’s border with North and South Dakota are the only communities spared from Tuesday’s severe weather threat, according to Tuesday morning’s forecast issued by the Storm Prediction Center.

Dodge, Mower, Goodhue and portions of Olmsted, Wabasha and Fillmore Counties are among counties with the highest risk level for severe weather.

The seven-county Twin Cities Metro is also included in the area with the highest severe weather risk in the state. The highest risk level in Minnesota is 2 out of 5.

Damaging Winds, Large Hail & Flooding Possible Throughout Minnesota Tuesday

Main hazards from the potential severe storms include damaging winds and large hail, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy downpours capable of causing localized and urban flooding are also a possible hazard from the potential storm, forecasters say.

The storm system is predicted to begin sweeping across Minnesota at 3 p.m. and could exit the state by 10 p.m., according to the forecast.

Officials are advising Minnesotans to be weather aware, seek shelter as storms approach and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
