The severe storm threat comes as the area remains starved for rainfall. The potential for storms also comes as the southeastern portion of Minnesota deals with poor air quality caused by Canadian wildfires

The latest prediction issued Wednesday morning by the Storm Prediction Center indicates Winona, Wabasha and Goodhue Counties are in a level two risk for severe storms. Forecasters say there’s now a 5-15% chance of severe storms developing Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening.

Rochester along with most of Olmsted County has been downgraded to a level one risk of severe storms. The NWS La Crosse office says the main threats from the possible severe weather is large hail and damaging winds with heavy rain listed as a secondary threat.
