Smoke and Sirens: Fire Forces Evacuation of Rochester Hotel
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A fire forced the evacuation of a Rochester hotel Tuesday evening.
The Rochester Fire Department responded to the blaze shortly after 7:30 p.m. The first crew to arrive found an evacuation, prompted by the building’s fire alarm, was underway.
The fire broke out at the Candlewood Suites at 1640 South Broadway Ave. The first firefighters to enter the building found smoke in a hallway and upgraded the call to a full structure fire.
Crews determined the fire was contained to a single room and that it was put out by an overhead sprinkler. Firefighters remained at the scene to ensure guest safety and remove smoke and water from the building.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is not available. Officials say the room where the fire broke out suffered smoke and water damage.
The Rochester Police Department, Mayo Clinic Ambulance and Red Cross also responded to the fire.
The fire department says Tuesday night’s fire serves as a reminder of the importance of evacuating a building when the fire alarm goes off even if the fire is not visible or noticeable throughout the entire building.
