Southern Minnesota School Superintendent Sentenced for Bribery
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Former Shakopee School District Superintendent Rodney Thompson is headed to federal prison for a bribery conviction.
A federal judge today ordered the 53-year-old former public school administrator to serve a 24-month sentence. Thompson entered into a plea agreement last November and admitted to a charge of corruptly soliciting a bribe.
“Mr. Thompson abused his position of trust throughout his entire tenure with the Shakopee School District. And now, his greedy and corrupt dealings have earned him a prison sentence,” said U.S. Attorney Erica H. MacDonald.
He was accused of using his position and authority to obtain personal benefits from a company pursuing a contract for construction projects in the Shakopee School District. The federal criminal complaint indicated he requested home improvement projects, personal travel, and tickets to professional sporting events from the company, which spent over $44,000 remodeling the basement of Thompson's home.
