Stewartville, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Stewartville woman is the latest in the Rochester area to fall for a phone scam - but at least she didn’t lose all her money.

The 23-year-old woman reported the scam to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Thursday.

She said she had been contacted by a man who said he was from the IRS and had her social security number. The man told her drugs and traces of blood were found in a car in Texas that was connected to her. The man said he would take care of the incident if she gave him money.

The woman purchased four $500 gift cards at a Rochester Walmart store. A short while later she suspected she had been scammed and returned to the store. She was able to cancel three of the four cards.
