
Lake City Police Identify Victim of Shooting Near Subway Restaurant
Lake City, MN (KROC-AM News)- Police in Lake City have identified the victim of last week’s shooting.

Officers responded to the gunfire in the area of the Subway restaurant, located at n the 1300 block of North Lakeshore Dr. just before 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 10.
Police found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen in an apartment near the restaurant.

Responding officers also found the suspected gunman, identified as 81-year-old William Charles Piar in the area of the scene.
60-Year-Old Man Identified as Victim of Lake City Shooting, Family Provides Update on His Condition
On Tuesday, officials identified the victim of the shooting as 60-year-old Daniel Ray Jankowski. His family says his condition is slowly improving but that he remains in critical care.

A criminal complaint indicates his wife and children were with him at the time of the shooting. A previous statement issued by Lake City police described his wounds as life-threatening.
Charges filed against Piar indicated the shooting stemmed from a multi-year property dispute. The court document says Jankowski owns the building that houses the Subway and that Piar lives at a property behind the restaurant.
Lake City police officers responding to the shooting encountered Piar behind the restaurant armed with a handgun. He was eventually subdued after officers shot him with multiple beanbag rounds, the criminal complaint says.
Piar was charged last week with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault.
The Lake City man is being held on $2 million conditional bail.
