A semi-truck and a car collided just before 8:30 Wednesday morning south of Stewartville on Highway 63.

The State Patrol says the road was icy at the time and lists the type of wreck as broadside.The 23 year old LeRoy man driving the car was killed. His name has not been released yet.The Texas man driving the truck was not hurt.

This was the latest in a series of fatal traffic wrecks in Minnesota since the beginning of the month. The Minnesota Public Safety Department reported earlier that the death toll through Sunday was 13.

There were nine reported traffic fatals in the state in all of January.

There have been at least two fatal accidents in northeast Minnesota since Sunday. A teenager was killed in a wreck Monday night near Sandstone and a 24 year old woman was killed Tuesday near Cloquet. The car she was in was struck by a vehicle that was taking the Forest Lake High School alpine ski team to the state championships at Giants Ridge. No injuries were reported in that vehicle.
