No big sales, no big bells ringing...just a quiet moment Wednesday as Gillespie Sporting Goods, on North Broadway in Rochester, closed for good.

In one form or another Gillespie SG has been open since The Gillespie's (a married couple) opened the store in 1961 They moved to the just-closed location on North Broadway  in 1965, and it's been open ever since.

The current owner, Dennie Teske, started working for the store in 1973 and finally bought teh GIllespie's out in 1991. Known for about 20 years as THE place to get plaques, trophies, and medals, it used to sell sporting goods before 2000, but then competition got too tight.

And now, with Covid-19, no one needs those plaques and medals...so the decision was made to close down permenantly.

You know a business will be missed when the Google reviews were this good. A sampling...

Jaclynn - The gentleman that helped me was friendly, greeted me with a smile, and did a great job engraving the plaque on the trophy I brought in! It was completed in just one day, very quickly!

Nicholas -Friendly helpful and knowledgeable. It's the right place to go if you need something unique.

Dan - Great place for sports trophies and engraving. The owner is very friendly and helpful.

Audrey - Super nice guy and gave me exactly what I needed!
