Another Ruling on Evidence in Mayo Clinic Doctor Murder Case
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Olmsted County judge presiding over a high profile murder case has issued another ruling concerning the evidence and this time, has denied defense motions to suppress it.
32-year-old Connor Bowman is accused of murdering his wife by poisoning Dr. Betty Bowman with the lethal dose of the medication used to treat gout. She died in August 2023 and her husband, who was also a Mayo Clinic physician, was charged with first-degree murder.
The judge recently issued an order suppressing a variety of evidence found on a number of electronic devices seized from Bowman's home when investigators executed search warrants in the case. The suppressed evidence included texts, emails, photos, notes, audio and video files, and media concerning toxic/hazardous/controlled substances, as well as financial matters, divorce, and/or personal relationship information. Evidence regarding Internet browsing histories, including articles or posts about the same topics, were also suppressed and cannot be used at Bowman's trial.

The judge has now ruled on defense challenges involving medical privilege and issues of "scrupulous exactitude." In a decision issued on Friday, the judge denied defense requests to suppress additional evidence based on those claims.
Bowman's defense team also lost an earlier bid to suppress evidence that was obtained by investigators through search warrants pertaining to his online activity through the University of Kansas, the results of a Mayo Clinic internal investigation, and records involving Bowman's banking activity and a life insurance policy. Prior to coming to Rochester, Bowman was employed by the University of Kansas.

Bowman's next court hearing on the charges has yet to be scheduled. He remains in the Olmsted County jail on $2 million bail.
