Chatfield Man Charged for Felony Fleeing for 2nd Time in 1 Month
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- For the second time in one month, the Olmsted County Attorney’s Office has charged a Chatfield man with felony fleeing.
The criminal complaint filed Monday in Olmsted County Court says a Rochester Police officer saw a man operating a pick-up truck with a canceled license at the Marion Rd. Kwik Trip in southeast Rochester shortly before 10:30 on the night of June 22. The officer initiated a traffic stop and reported the truck had temporarily stopped in the gas station’s parking lot before taking off at a high rate of speed and nearly striking another vehicle as the suspect exited the parking lot.
The officer saw the suspect driver, identified as 43-year-old Jason Dean Batt, turn the pick-up south on Marion Rd. and run a red light at the intersection of 20th St. Southeast, the complaint says. The officer declined to directly pursue but tracked the vehicle to 40th Ave. Southeast.
Officers then found Batt in the vehicle on Crestwood Ct. Southeast. He then sped towards the marked squad cars with their lights activated, forcing one of the officers to back up to avoid being rammed by the vehicle Batt was driving, according to the complaint.
Batt then drove into a yard along Crestwood Ct. Southeast then sped away from officers on 40th Ave. Southeast, the complaint says. Batt also has a St. Charles address and was arrested there the next day.
Batt was arraigned on a felony fleeing charge in Olmsted County Court on Monday. The judge in the case set his bail at $50,000 without conditions.
Court records say the other fleeing case against Batt was filed in May after he was accused of fleeing an Olmsted County Sheriff’s deputy in Byron. He was released without bail but with conditions in that case, which is still ongoing in Olmsted County Court. His next court appearance in both fleeing cases is set for July 3.
