WACONIA, Minn. (AP) — Sheriff's officials say a 4-year-old boy suffered critical injuries in a fall from a second story window at a home in Waconia.

Carver County sheriff's deputies say a neighbor noticed the boy had fallen about 15 feet to a patio below, notified the child's parents and called 911 Sunday.

The boy was rushed to Ridgeview Hospital and later transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center. Authorities say he's in critical condition with a head injury.

Sheriff Jim Olson says windows open just five inches can create a hazard for young children. Window screens offer little protection to keep kids inside. Olson urges parents to consider installing window safeguards.
