Frozen Pipe Leads to Fire in Rural Pine Island Horse Barn
Pine Island, MN (KROC-AM News) - Members of the Pine Island Fire Department were called out into the bitter cold this morning after a fire was reported in a horse barn.
A news release says the fire was reported shortly after 11 AM along County Road 27 about a mile and a half west of Pine Island. It was reported that the homeowner was attempting to thaw a frozen water pipe with a torch and accidentally started a fire in the barn

A law enforcement officer was the first to arrive at the scene and spotted light smoke coming from the barn. The Pine Island Fire Department says the homeowner was able to haul water to the barn to slow the spread of the fire before firefighters arrived and extinguished the remaining flames and smoldering debris.
The damage was estimated at between $20,000 and $30,000.
No injuries were reported and the news release says the homeowners were able to safely evacuate the horses from the barn before the firefighters arrived.
