GOP Suffered Obamacare Failure but Got Intelligence Coup
Former CIA officer Col. Tony Shaffer said Donald Trump’s claim to have been surveilled by the Obama Administration is not only true, but may produce a Democrat scandal worse than the surveillance committed by the Nixon Administration in “Watergate.” Watergate era reporter Bob Woodward also reinforced the potential seriousness of that surveillance and those criminal leaks.
Rep. Peter King (R-NY) said he supported the decision by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Deven Nunes (R-CA) to brief the White House on the surveillance and leaking of President Donald Trump and his campaign associates. Nunes feared the sandbagging of that information by partisan Democrat colleagues on the House intelligence oversight committee and thought the President and his team had to be updated.
Fox News reporter James Rosen, who had himself been spied on and threatened by the Obama Dept. of Justice, said the National Security Agency is expected to produce and release more documents in coming days.
Nunes said the NSA was cooperative, but so far the FBI and Director Comey was less so. In a recent oversight hearing Comey would not answer whether the FBI was investigating alleged or ex-federal employee ("mole") leakers that may have contacted Nuenes. Hopefully the sometimes-referenced “Stupid Party” doesn’t blow this political Mother Lode in more ineffective congressional hearings.
Meanwhile House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) suffered a blow to his leadership reputation when Trump pressured him to allow a vote on the repeal of Obamacare that failed. A divided Republican Party couldn’t craft unifying bill after 7 years of promises.
Trump took a hit as well, but may in the long run be correct in his assessment that now Obamacare will collapse on its own, and that devastation will be laid on the Democrat Party and stimulate successful future legislation.
