(OPINION) Biden Gets Resistance at Home and Overseas

The battle for political control in the primary and general 2024 elections continues and candidates are in full swing. The claims, counterclaims, and rhetoric need to be addressed, sorted out, and analyzed so voters can be informed, make up their minds, and vote to place their preferred candidates into office.

The southern border issues have historic significance. Republicans, and many independents, along with some Democrats see the need to control and close the Texas-Mexico border to stop the flow of migrants, drug cartels, and military-age men from a plethora of nations, some of which are adversaries and enemies of the United States.

Other observers, mostly Democrats, and President Biden, want open borders for humanitarian and political reasons, hoping the flow will give them an electoral advantage.

Texas Republican Governor Abbott has had enough trauma and costs to his state. He has bussed tens of thousands of migrants to Blue, “sanctuary city states,” causing them enormous costs and hypocritical complaining.

President Biden, and/or his handlers, are reading the polls, and finding out voters are fed up with the costs and carnage of the open border, and the usual Democrat constituents, including Hispanics and Blacks, have had enough. They are suffering from the deluge, and letting Biden know it will cost him votes. A Supreme Court decision, which included two conservative justices, declared Biden’s Border Patrol officers can cut the razor wire Texas authorities and National Guard troops erected to stem the migrant flow. But the Court did not prohibit Texas officials, including Border Patrol, State, and local enforcement from erecting more wire, which they intend to do, with the support of numerous Republican governors.

Supporters of the Texas border zealots include independents and the Border Patrol union leaders. The situation has stimulated calls for the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas, and even President Biden, for failure to carry out their constitutional obligation to protect and secure the nation from crime, terror, and “invasion.”

Biden has threatened to federalize the National Guard, taking that branch of the military out of state control. Republican governors have threatened to send, and some have already, their National Guard and law enforcement units to the Texas border to support Governor Gregg Abbott.

Surprisingly, the Customs and Border Patrol Union, according to Red State reporter Bonchie and Fox News reporter Griff Jenkins blamed Biden for “creating the current catastrophe,” adding, “there will be no conflict between CBP agents and state forces.”

Another surprise on the political scene is the fortunate and thankful stroke recovery of Pennsylvania Democrat U.S. Senator John Fetterman who dissents from much of the Woke agenda on progressive issues and supports Israel in the Gaza-Hamas/Israel war. Pro-Gaza protestors confronted Fetterman at his home, causing him to take the flag of Israel to his rooftop, to wave at protestors. Politico reporter Holly Otterbein said Fetterman “told a pro-Palestinian activist to her face that she should be protesting Hamas.” Otterbein reminded her readers that “Pennsylvania has the fifth largest Jewish population of any state in the nation,” and has “described himself as pro-police,” saying the call to defund the police” was “absurd.”

Another election issue for the Biden Administration, is, how to give continued support for Israel in its fight for survival in the Gaza war against Hamas and Hezbollah but appease the generally young Democrat and American Muslim voters who oppose Israel’s defensive war.

Andrea Widburg, an American Thinker columnist, describes the Biden Administration as approaching Israel with cease-fire admonitions for Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu to help Biden win the next election: Biden to Israel: Forget your existential (threat) concerns. I have an election to win.” Yet, writes Widburg, Biden promised to fund the Ukraine War for “as long as it takes.’”

U.S. foreign and domestic policies and politics are intertwined. The Biden policy vacillations and calculations clearly illustrate the connection.
