Handgun is the Latest Item Reported Stolen from Vehicle in Rochester
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The owner of a handgun is reporting the theft of her weapon from a residential area in Rochester.
Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen said Tuesday morning the gun is believed to have been stolen sometime between Jan. 18 and Jan. 19. The theft was reported on Jan. 19.
Moilanen said the firearm was reported to have been stolen out of a vehicle parked in the 10 block of 13th Ave. in northeast Rochester. It’s described as a Smith and Wesson .22 caliber handgun.
The gun’s owner told police the weapon has a green and gray wooden aftermarket grip on it. The report does not indicate whether or not the vehicle was locked.
Earlier this week Rochester Police released a photo of a man suspected of stealing credit cards out of a vehicle in northwest Rochester. Police say the man used the stolen cards to make purchases at Fleet Farm and Target South in Rochester.
In previous cases involving property stolen from vehicles, police have reminded residents to ensure valuables are not left in plain view.
Authorities say thieves will often patrol parking lots and streets to see if any items left inside of vehicles are visible then try the door handle or even break open a window to retrieve the item.
