Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Major heat wave is set to blast Minnesota with scorching temperatures this week.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the Rochester area. It’s scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday and end at 9 p.m. Wednesday. 

The warning predicts dangerous heat for communities in southeast Minnesota Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon. The forecasted high in Rochester as of Monday morning is 98 on Tuesday and 100 on Wednesday. 

High humidity is expected to drive heat index values as high as 112. The Excessive Heat Warning is scheduled to be downgraded to an Excessive Heat Watch Wednesday night.

Heat index values are predicted to range from 98-108 during the watch, which is scheduled to expire Thursday evening. The National Weather Service is also sharing information to safely navigate this week’s heat.

The City of Rochester and Olmsted County are taking action amid the predicted sweltering temperatures. A news release issued by the city lists the free ways that residents and visitors can cool off.

The scorching temperatures are expected to break by the end of the week. Highs in Rochester are predicted to return to the mid-80’s by Friday and fall into the upper-70’s by Saturday.
