Congressman Tim Walz has called for more scrutiny on the operations at the Rochester Veterans Administration medical clinic, but callers to Rochester Today on Tuesday had good things to say about the local facility.

Amid all of the negative media coverage about the VA health care system, listeners called Andy Brownell and Tom Ostrom Tuesday morning on KROC-AM with positive reviews about the care they have received at the Rochester clinic. It's anecdotal, but the callers reported professional and timely responses to their routine medical needs.

The Rochester clinic is a limited operation, offering mainly basic physicals, immunizations and other routine care to military veterans living in the Rochester area. It's located near the intersection of West Circle Drive and 55th street northwest and is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m.

Tom and Andy also talked about the humanitarian crisis that has developed in the southwestern U.S. where tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants, mainly from Central America, have been streaming across the border in Texas.  Many are unaccompanied children and have overwhelmed the federal government's ability to deal with them.

Local and state officials in Texas and Arizona are complaining the feds are "dumping" the new arrivals and cities in both states without providing any assistance.
