Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The woman convicted for slashing a toddler with a pizza cutter at a Rochester daycare is facing a new assault charge.

The new case stems from an alleged assault at the Olmsted County Jail. The criminal complaint indicates the attack occurred while she was awaiting sentencing in the daycare assault case. 

Last month, an Olmsted County jury convicted  27-year-old Andrianna Newburn of multiple assault charges for cutting her co-worker’s two-year-old daughter with a pizza cutter.

That assault happened at the KinderCare Learning Center, located at 1815 Greenview Pl. Southwest on the afternoon of June 13, 2024.

The little girl suffered multiple lacerations in the attack. One of the cuts, on the right side of her face, had to be surgically repaired, the court document said. 

Newburn remains in custody awaiting her sentencing hearing in the case which is scheduled for next month.

The newest complaint against Newburn alleges she struck a fellow detainee at the Olmsted County Jail in the face with a tablet.

Newburn and the victim had gotten into an argument during breakfast on the morning of July 2 and had both been ordered to return to their cells prior to the attack, the court document says. 

The victim was taken to a hospital and was diagnosed with a fractured nasal bone, the complaint says.

Newburn is charged with felony third-degree assault for the alleged attack in the jail. Her first court appearance in the new assault case is scheduled to happen next year.
