He was also accused of threatening staff with a knife, Rochester Police Department Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson said.
It’s the second time this year Rochester police have responded to an incident involving a knife at the Landing MN day shelter.
In April, officers arrested 52-year-old Elizondo Ricardo Jr. for allegedly stabbing a man in the back outside of the building.
He was charged with second-degree assault and released without bail. That case is still pending.

Man Assaulted, Staff Threatened During Knife Incident at Landing MN in Downtown Rochester
On Thursday, officers responded to the Landing MN at 426 3rd Ave. Southeast around 5:15 p.m. on the report of a man assaulting another man and threatening staff with a knife.
Officers identified the suspect as 29-year-old Refugio Muniz. He was taken into custody once officers arrived, the police report says.
The criminal complaint, filed in Olmsted County Court on Friday, says Muniz slapped a man across the face while the two were at a table outside of the building.
He’s accused of then brandishing a knife and threatening to cut a staff member when he was told to leave the premises, the court document says. Officers recovered a knife in Muniz’s front pocket.
Grayson said the victim was not taken to a hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Muniz was charged with second-degree assault, felony threats and misdemeanor assault. Court records indicate Muniz has been convicted of domestic assault, and threats of violence.
His bail was set at $100,000 Friday without conditions. Muniz is due back in court next month.
