That’s according to a news release issued by the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday. The alleged pursuit ended with what authorities described as an intentional ramming.

The incident began with an attempted traffic stop for multiple driving violations around 1:15 Saturday morning. Authorities say speeds during the pursuit reached speeds of 100 mph.

The pursuing law officers reported the vehicle turned off of the highway in the small town of Hines and avoided a deputy’s pursuit intervention technique by entering the ditch then returning to southbound Hwy. 71.

A State Trooper and another Beltrami County Sheriff’s Deputy who joined the pursuit successfully deployed tire deflation devices but the suspect vehicle continued south into Bemidji, according to the news release.

The officer occupying the squad maneuvered to avoid a head-on collision but was still struck on the rear of the driver’s side by the fleeing southbound vehicle, authorities say.

The vehicle became disabled after the ramming. The suspect then resisted arrest and was sprayed with a chemical irritant to gain compliance, the news release says.

Authorities have identified the fleeing suspect as 52-year-old Jason Moe of Grygla, MN.

He was evaluated at a hospital then arrested on suspicion of fleeing in a motor vehicle, first degree assault, use of deadly force on a peace officer, second degree driving while impaired and obstruction with force.
