Minnesota Businessman Pleads Guilty in Feeding Our Future Scandal
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - There has been another guilty plea to charges stemming from the Feeding Our Future fraud scandal.
The US Attorney for Minnesota says 40-year-old Ahmed Sharif Omar-Hashim, who is also known as Salah Donyale, on Thursday entered a guilty plea to a federal wire fraud charge for his role in the scheme to defraud a federal child nutrition program out of approximately $250 million during the COVID pandemic. Federal prosecutors say Omar-Hashim and his co-conspirators received nearly $7.5 million in reimbursements from the program.
According to his guilty plea and court documents, Omar-Hashim created a company called Olive Management in St. Cloud under the sponsorship of Feeding Our Future. The company claimed that it served meals to 3000 children per day, 7 days a week. Between September 2020 and September 2021, Olive Management claimed it served more than 1.6 million meals to children and filed for reimbursement of the associated expenses from the federal government.
His sentencing hearing has yet to be scheduled.
