Minnesota Man Sentenced for Arson at Target Headquarters

St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Minnesota man will serve time in federal prison after being convicted in an arson case at Target’s headquarters in downtown Minneapolis.

The arson happened in August of 2020 amid rioting, looting and arson that broke out after a false rumor of a fatal officer-involved shooting spread throughout the city. 

Federal court documents say 37-year-old Leroy Lemonte Perry Williams of Minneapolis and dozens of others gathered at Target’s Corporate headquarters during the unrest. 

Williams and his co-defendants then broke into the building and repeatedly attempted to start fires both inside and outside of the retailer’s headquarters, a news release issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota says. 

Williams was convicted of one count of Arson in October. He was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in federal prison. 

The decade behind bars will be followed by three years of supervised release.  

The conviction and sentence is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Minneapolis Fire Department, and the Minneapolis, Bloomington, and Richfield Police Departments.
