Recent domestic and foreign affairs reflect challenging and dangerous times.

Columnist Michael Goodman traced the failed July assassination attempt on former president Donald J. Trump, blaming anti-Trump forces for motivating the assassin after “they called him a threat to democracy, unleashed agents to investigate him, rigged trials to put him in prison, keep him off ballots, bankrupt him, and now they have shot him.”

Brave Secret Service agents protected the wounded Trump and killed the assailant. But questions about the Secret Service response led to the resignation of USSS director Kimberly Cheatle.

Prior to the attempted assassination, Joel Pollak reported, “The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Donald Trump in a 6-3 decision that presidents are covered by limited immunity from criminal prosecutions for actions taken while in office.”

That was a significant Trump win against prosecution attempts. Andrea Widburg wrote that “Trump was triumphant, as federal judge Aileen Cannon mirrored Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, dismissing prosecutor Jack Smith’s Mara-Lago documents case, questioning the legality of his appointment, and problematic charges.

Timmerman writes, “A defiant, Benjamin Netanyahu prepares for a wider war and showdown with Iran,” with the prime minister’s stark warning: “If we don’t resolve this now, we will be destroyed.’

The Biden administration sought to limit Israeli military action in Gaza and supports a two-state solution of a sovereign Gaza adjacent to Israel. Biden was allegedly influenced by the large numbers of Arab-Muslim American voters and their “pro-Palestinian agenda.”

The pro-Hamas faction in Gaza denies Israel’s right to exist. Netanyahu has made clear he does not favor a sovereign Gaza, that element of “the two-state solution.” The Israeli Defense Force and Netanyahu say their objective is to destroy the adversaries who attacked Israel on October 7, 2023.
