The Federal Constitution included the Department of War. American Thinker columnist Robert Arvay traces the name change to 1949, when Congress “placed the Departments of the Army, Navy, and Air Force under the new Department of Defense,” shifting its mission away from offense.
The Evolution of the Department of War and Defense
President Trump and Secretary Hegseth have engineered the return of a more forceful mission and changed the name back to the War Department.
Another change at the Pentagon is the reinstallation of a painting of Confederate officer and former U.S. Army West Point commander Robert E. Lee in the West Point Library. Lee and Confederate President Jefferson Davis openly opposed slavery and led the Confederate nation in resisting the Union invasion of Virginia and enforcing secession from the United States.
President Lincoln made it clear in pre-war America that he waged war against the Confederacy to save the Union, not to abolish slavery. The Emancipation of Slaves came later in the war, in part to keep Britain out of the conflict, as Britain initially supported the South.
New York Post columnist Miranda Devine broke the Hunter Biden laptop story, which Democrats, the FBI, and left-wing media denied and suppressed. In a recent column, Devine declared that the Biden administration “threw open the border (for illegal migrants) to rig the census and elections for Democrats…with a reckless disregard for potential criminality and terrorism.”
Devine also highlighted the huge welfare and other costs of the migration influx.
Supreme Court Disputes and America’s Political Divide
Fox News writer Hanna Panreck cited a disturbing attribute liberal Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor admitted to in an appearance on a liberal talk show about her conservative colleagues: she said she disagrees with the majority conservative decisions, “when I want to scurry out of the room.” The Justice seemed not to appreciate that the very role of the Court is to argue, disagree, and hammer out majority and minority perspectives. In another media appearance, Sotomayor claimed that dissent, such as in the overturning of Roe v. Wade, “is the price we pay.”
That is the very function of the high court: to resolve and decide the contentious cases that lower courts and interest groups send to it.
The most frustrating and threatening columns, news articles, and TV discussions to experience are the name-calling and threats from the Left against conservative politicians, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and other law enforcement officers who are trying to uphold laws and protect public safety.

Sadly, influential politicians are adding fuel to the fire and aiding and abetting violence. They should be prosecuted for that, including the governors of California, Illinois, and Minnesota, along with the mayors of Chicago and Los Angeles.
