Rochester State Senator Dave Senjem is retiring from the State Legislature but not from politics.

The two-week filing period for candidates seeking public offices in Minnesota's general election in November opened today and Senjem was among the first in the Rochester area to put his name on the list. He is running for the District 2 Commissioners position on the Olmsted County Board. The seat is currently held by Ken Brown, who recently announced he would not be running for reelection this fall after serving as a County Commissioner for two decades.

Laurel Podulke-Smith also filed today for the District 1 seat on the County Board, which has been held by her mother Stephanie Podulke since 2011 when she replaced her husband Mike Podulke following his unexpected death. Current District 3 Commissioner.

Brian Mueller has filed as a candidate in District 4, which has been represented by Matt Flynn since 1997. Flynn has also announced he will not be running for reelection along with District 5 Commissioner Jim Bier. Mike Macken today filed for that position.

Two incumbent members of the County Board, District 3 Commissioner Gregg Wright and District 6 Commissioner Sheila Kiscaden have filed for reelection. Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem, who announced his plans to run for reelection last week, also officially filed for the position today.

Rochester Mayor Kim Norton filed for reelection today along with 5th Ward Councilmember Shaun Palmer. Saida Omar filed as a candidate for the 3rd Ward seat currently held by Nick Campion.

Three incumbents on the Rochester School Board also filed today and one of them already has a challenger.  A. Mohamed "Chief" joined Jean Marvin in filing today for Position 5 on the School Board. Julia Workman filed for reelection to Position 4 and Cathy Nathan filed for another term in office for Position 6.
