Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has been given a 27-year prison sentence for his conviction for producing child pornography.

Adam Reitz entered a guilty plea to a charge of production of child pornography in federal court last month. He and Shahla Thompson were accused of sexually abusing a young boy and using the child to produce pornography. Thompson also pleaded guilty in the case and admitted to receipt of child pornography but has yet to be sentenced.

“The sexual abuse of children is among the most abhorrent criminal acts,” said U.S. Attorney Erica MacDonald. “When it comes to protecting society’s most vulnerable, we will not relent. As demonstrated in today’s sentence, justice will be served.”

Reitz still faces criminal sexual conduct and child endangerment charges in Olmsted Court in connection with allegations that he sexually abused a young boy who was used in the production of child pornography. It was also alleged the child was given methamphetamine.

The charges brought against Thompson in Olmsted Court were dismissed under very unusual circumstances. County Attorney Mark Ostrem stated he dropped the case against the Rochester woman because the court had ordered his office to fulfill her defense attorney’s request for the delivery of copies of the evidence. Ostrem contends that would result in a violation of federal child pornography laws that prohibit any reproduction and distribution of the materials.
