Rochester Man Sentenced for Child Sex Abuse Conviction
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester man has avoided a prison sentence for a child sexual abuse conviction.
64-year-old Paul Collopy entered a guilty plea to second-degree criminal sexual conduct charge last year. He was accused of molesting a girl under the age of 10 in the spring of 2021.
The ratification of the plea agreement was delayed by nearly a year over confusion regarding the plea deal’s agreed upon sentencing. The matter was formally cleared up in Olmsted County Court on Tuesday.
Callopy was then sentenced to five years probation and 30 days in jail. He has also been ordered to be electronically monitored following his jail term and to complete a sex offender program, court records say.
The criminal complaint in the case alleges Callopy molested the young girl he was caring for after school from April 2021 through May 2021. Collopy also allegedly got the girl to touch him while he was supervising her.
If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, resources are available for help. Visit the RAINN website (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) or dial 800-656-HOPE (800-656-4673).
The girl told her mother about the sexual abuse in May 2022. The girl confirmed the story during a pair of interviews with law enforcement in May and June, the court document says.
