Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man was sentenced today to five years on probation for his conviction on a felony charge stemming from an online "sting" conducted by a New Jersey law enforcement agency.
33-year-old Peter Workman earlier admitted to a charge of engaging in electronic communication relating to or describing sexual conduct with a child. Another felony charge of distribution of material that relates to and/or describes sexual conduct with a child was dismissed.
Workman was charged in December 2022 after the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was contacted by investigators in New Jersey after they traced his IP address. Eventually, the Rochester Police Department got involved and the criminal complaint was filed in Olmsted County Court alleging Workman initiated an online conversation with an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old girl on a social media platform.
According to the charges, the initial contact occurred in September 2022 and continued for 11 days. During that time, Workman allegedly sent the undercover officer photos of his genitals and videos of him performing lewd acts. The criminal complaint states that the undercover officer informed Workman multiple times that he was communicating with a person who was just 13 years old.
As part of his sentencing, Workman is required to register as a predatory offender.
