Rochester Police Looking Into Possible Social Media Threat
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester Police Department is investigating a possible social media threat involving John Marshall High School.
An email distributed to John Marshall students and their families indicates that multiple members of the John Marshall community contacted school officials Wednesday evening about a social media post that included a photo of a gun. The email noted that the post did not include a specific threat against any individual or organization.
Rochester Public Schools officials indicated that they concluded, based on what they knew at the time, that the social media account and post were generated from a fake account. The email went on to say the officials had "no reason to believe a legitimate threat to the John Marshall community access"
Rochester police were asked to attempt to track the source of the social media post.
The incident follows a threat, which was also deemed non-credible, that resulted in an increased police presence at Kasson-Mantorville High School earlier this week. There was also an incident at Byron High School involving a suspicious substance found in the student's locker that prompted the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office to consult with the Bloomington Bomb Squad and to search the building with explosives detection K9s.
