The Rochester School Board has rejected a proposed 2015 property tax levy that would have been 17 percent higher than the current figure.  Staff had recommended the higher figure to avoid cuts in next year’s budget.

Staff’s second option was a proposal that would result in a levy increase of around 10 percent and that’s the one the board approved last night.    It calls for a levy of just under $41 million, or $3 million lower than the higher figure.

A final figure will be set in December.
