The Rochester School Board held a special meeting Monday evening to approve the only bid submitted for the purchase of almost 3500 iPads.

Apple Incorporated of Austin Texas was awarded the contract to supply the tablet computers, along with protective covers and some technical support for about $1.4 million dollars. That closely matched the cost estimate that was provided to the school board when it authorized staff to request bids for the expansion of the school district’s One to One Technology Initiative.

The program was established at Longfellow Elementary School a few years ago, and will now be expanded to three additional elementary schools (Pinewood, Gage, and Riverside Central) along with the Lincoln at Mann K-8 Choice School and Willow Creek and Friedell Middle Schools at the start of the second semester.
