Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges Against Rochester Man
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- An apparent traffic violation has led to drug charges against a Rochester man.
The criminal complaint filed Monday against 40-year-old Terry Ohm says Rochester police pulled him over for failure to signal in the 800 block of Broadway Ave. North shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday. A drug-recognition officer involved in the stop stated Ohm appeared to be displaying signs of stimulant use, which prompted a request for a K-9 search of the vehicle he was driving.
Officers also spotted a torch lighter in the center council. While waiting for the K-9, Ohm told officers there was meth and marijuana in the vehicle. That was confirmed by the K-9, according to the complaint.
Police seized multiple baggies containing meth and marijuana following a search of the vehicle. The substance suspected of being meth field tested positive and weighed 14.3 grams. The search also uncovered over $1,500 in cash, a digital scale, measuring cup and several empty baggies, the complaint says.
Police say the discovery of the items indicate an intent to sell drugs. Court records show Ohm has a prior drug possession conviction that dates back to March 2014.
Ohm was arraigned on charges of second-degree drug sales and third-degree drug possession in Olmsted County Court Monday. His conditional bail was set at $10,000 and jail records show he remains behind bars at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center.
