
Train Smashes Into Semi at Rural Minnesota Construction Zone

Lake Crystal, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities are investigating a collision between a train and semi truck at a rural southern Minnesota construction zone.

First responders were dispatched to the crash shortly before 2:15 Wednesday afternoon. The train was pulling tanker and box cars.
Officials say the semi did not follow the designated detour route in place due to a road construction project. Authorities are using the incident to remind motorists to follow designated detour routes.

Train and Semi Collide At Rural Crossing Near Lake Crystal, MN, Crash Under Investigation
A news release issued by the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened at the 200th St. railroad crossing in Lake Crystal, which is about 15 miles southwest of Mankato.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates the truck driver was following traffic onto 200th St. to avoid a Hwy. 60 closure when the train smashed into the truck’s trailer.
None of the train cars suffered any damage or leakage, the news release says.
Officials identified the truck driver as 59-year-old Jerry Lee Budeau of Bismarck, North Dakota. He escaped the crash without injuries.
Authorities say the semi was full of paper and packaging products. The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office with the crash investigation.
