UTV Driver Seriously Injured in Crash at Rural Minnesota Intersection
Garden City, MN (KROC-AM News)- A young man from southern Minnesota is fighting for his life after being involved in a UTV-pick-up crash Thursday afternoon.
The State Patrol responded to the crash at the intersection of Hwy. 16 at Blue Earth County Rd. 31, which is about 20 miles southwest of Mankato. The crash was reported shortly before 3:15 p.m.
The state crash report indicates 22-year-old Carter Jacob Klause of Garden City, MN was operating the side-by-side UTV as it was attempting to cross Hwy. 169 on eastbound County Rd. 21. The UTV collided with a pick-up truck heading north on the two-lane highway at the intersection.
Klause was flown to a Twin Cities hospital with what are described as life-threatening injuries. The pick-up driver, identified as 27-year-old Blaine Andrew Stephenson of St. Cloud, and a man riding in the pick-up, identified as 53-year-old Timothy John Laman of Stanchfield, MN, were not hurt.
The state crash report says Klause was not wearing a helmet and that he had consumed alcohol prior to the crash.
