Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester bowhunters will have a chance to bow hunt this fall at nearly a dozen locations in their own backyard.

A news release sent out Monday indicates the City of Rochester Parks and Recreation Department and the Rochester Archery Club will put on a controlled bow hunt for deer at 11 parks across the med city from Sept. 17 through Dec. 31. Officials say the hunt is in response to increasing public concerns about Rochester’s urban deer population, saying there were over 200 deer-related vehicle accidents reported in the city last year.

The parks and trails where hunting is taking place will stay open, however some areas may be closed off. The application process is open until August 15. Hunters are required to complete Minnesota’s Bowhunter Education and pass the state’s Bowhunter proficiency test. Bowhunters who meet the qualifications can access the application by clicking here.

Full Season - September 17 -- December 31st:

  • Gamehaven
  • South Zumbro Trail natural area from 16th St. Southwest to Mayowood Rd.
  • Indian Heights
  • Northern Heights

Late Season - October 15th -- December 31st:

  • Foster Arend
  • Hadley Creek Golf Course
  • Bear Creek
  • McQuillan
  • Essex Park
  • North Zumbro natural areas from Recreation Center to 37th St. Northwest
