Detour Planned for Major Road In & Out of Downtown Rochester
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A detour begins this week for a frequently-used road that brings people in and out of downtown Rochester.
A news release from the City of Rochester says the closure is due to utility work relating to the Discovery Walk project. The planned detour will take motorists north of the work.
2nd St. Southwest will be closed in both directions between 1st Ave. and 3rd Ave. Southwest on Thursday. Eastbound traffic will be detoured northbound on 3rd Ave. southwest to eastbound West Center Street then southbound on Broadway Ave. South. Westbound motorists will be sent northbound on Broadway Ave. South, westbound on West Center St. then southbound on 4th Ave. Southwest.
The closure is also forcing a temporary relocation of the downtown Rochester Public Transit Center. The temporary bus stop hub will be moved to Central Park during the utility work.
The sidewalks on both sides of the street are expected to remain open during the work. Officials say the detour is scheduled to run through Sunday.
