Construction on Highway 52 from Marion to Chatfield begins on Monday, May 6th, creating a detour for many travelers who commute to Rochester from Southeast Minnesota.

For those interested to learn more about the project, they can attend an open house tomorrow, April 30th, at Chatfield City Hall from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The public will be able to drop during that time frame to ask any questions they may have.

Rochester Sand & Gravel, a MnDOT contractor, will be repaving, replacing culverts and making improvements along Highway 52 from Marion through Chatfield beginning May 6. In Chatfield, crews will make sidewalk and pedestrian ramp accessibility improvements and replace traffic signals.

There will be detours at for two stages of the project while culverts are replaced along the road. Both detours will reroute traffic off of Highway 52 between Chatfield and Marion for approximately three months.

Work on rural Hwy 52, includes a blacktop mill and overlay, turn-lane extensions, intersection safety improvements, and culvert repairs/replacements. Three box culverts (bridges) will be replaced along the rural portion of the project.
