Update: Dodge County Deputy Taken to Hospital After Responding to Hazardous Leak Near Hayfield 

Hayfield, MN (KROC-AM News)- A major hazardous materials spill closed part of a southeast Minnesota highway overnight.

Very little information has been released. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced the closure shortly before 9:30 Wednesday night. 

Officials reopened the highway shortly after 5:00 Thursday morning.

Hwy. 56 South of Hayfield Reopened After Hazardous Chemical Release

Emergency responders were dispatched to the spill along Hwy. 56 between Hayfield and the Dodge-Mower County line. 

MnDOT said the road closure was, “for a warning of a major hazardous materials release.” 

Traffic was detoured around the area via Dodge County Rd. 2, Dodge County Rd. 5/Mower County Rd. 16 to Mower County Rd. 1. 

Details regarding the hazardous chemical release have not yet been released. 

The amount of material spilled has also not yet been disclosed. No word if anyone was injured.
